Learning a second language is considered equally important for the mind as physical activity is for the body. Constant thinking of an adequate word in the resource of two languages exercise your human’s brain, activate multitasking skills and enforce brain cells. Bilingual people do this activity whenever they speak – they try to choose the right language and surpress the wrong one. This stimulates different brain parts enlarging cognitive segment.
Dr Thomas Back, the author of a research on this subject, says: ’For me, speaking more than one language is equal to swimming. When swimming, we use every muscle; when speaking we use almost all brain parts’. Bilinguals always ’juggle’ between different sounds, words, structures, contexts and social standards related to those two languages. This offers a constant, intensive mental training.
